When AI can taste

Mushrooms on toastIt’s interesting as AI starts to encroach on the physical world via it’s incorporation with Robots. The information that’s involved in moving an object, identifying it and being able to discuss it, it’s importance and also place it say in a structure that is visually pleasing or technically correct. That’s an incredible amount of information and a number of concepts. AI is starting to juggle all of this.

This whole thing of digitising the physical environment. I think AI is about to teach us a lot – and that we have a lot to learn about not just physical space – but what about when an AI can taste? Has the ability to identify any wine and any vintage? The ability to de construct a flavour, a chemical ,a smell.

Hook an AI up to machines that can perform Raman Spectroscopy, Infrared Spectroscopy, fluorescent microscopy and polarized light microscopy and you have the ultimate machine for the verification of historic paintings.

Then hook an AI up to a quantum computer and something like the James Web telescope. Also may be it can also help with us finally sorting out Nuclear fusion. Humanity is really on the cusp of something, I just hope we can make sure it works well for as many of us as possible.

Circuit boardsI do a lot of technical reading on line, some interesting stuff I’ve seen, is in relation to computers programming.. computers!

Back in Jan 2024 Linus Torvalds seem to think that humans – well at least part of being a human is in fact like an auto compleet function on steroids, and that in time. Code functionality and maintenance could be done buy Large Language Model-based systems (LLMs). That this will be something that helps programmers and computation in general.

It’s interesting in that some of the comments on this vid are from programmers and their experience with and use of LLM’s and AI, and the ways that they have been used to help create code.

By June 2024 I found this video of the youtuber “Anastiasia in tech”, she discuses how code has been optimized by AI or at least a machine learning process that has created faster sorting algorithms discovered using deep reinforcement learning. This is an important basic computer function that has not seen any great advances in a number of years, but the machine has made some significant improvements!

I like the idea that Humans are auto correct on steroids, well at least a part of us are. Think about it, you can feel your brain working some times (especially if your older!) you can sometimes find the words… and some times they come out wrong. I blame it on solar storms!

AI pushing some boundaries

So I’ve been using https://chat.openai.com/chat for a little while now and discovered that the 2500 characters limitation is one to look out for. (and yes I’m considering getting the paid version to get around this problem). But what have you actually used this for? You might ask!

If your a programmer you are in for a treat. I’ve got it to help me build a couple of things, one being a basic cryptographic product. I’ve had this idea for about 5 years sitting in the back of my brain and it took about an hour and a half with a bit of help from the droid as it were to get a basic working product.

Steve Jobs once described the computer as a bicycle for the brain, this feels like I’ve just jumped on a rather nice motorcycle! Seriously if you haven’t tried chat.openai.com do it now. This is a game changer.

Some of the things it can’t do are language related, I got this reply when attempting to find the meaning of the word “Andoo”.

Dear old google replied with.
“Andoo, to keep boat in position by rowing gently against wind or tide.

So I suppose the old search engine still has a bit of life in it yet.

Finally don’t forget “Prompt Engineering” (a hot YouTube topic at the moment) Which is basically putting data (From the web if needed) into your requests. It has unbelievable sorting / arranging, and analysis skill.

I can’t say this enough, it’s not perfect… but it is getting better all the time, learn to ride that motorcycle.
